No­tices to sugar mills over loans

Mumbai: The state fi­nance min­is­ter has is­sued no­tices to co­op­er­a­tive sugar mills which have de­faulted on loans worth over Rs1,200 crore.

An of­fi­cial said some district cen­tral co­op­er­a­tive banks are fac­ing a cri­sis due to non-re­pay­ment of loans given to sugar mills con­trolled by lead­ers from the op­po­si­tion Congress and the NCP.

State fi­nance min­is­ter Sud­hir Mun­gan­ti­war has also di­rected the co-op­er­a­tive de­part­ment to come up with a ‘white pa­per’ list­ing the loans and the amounts re-paid.
