New Delhi: A 28-year-old man died while cleaning a DJB sewer pit in Delhi’s Dabri on Friday. The incident comes less than a week after the death of five workers inside a sewage pipe of DLF Capital Greens in Moti Nagar. The person who had called him to clean the sewer had a panic attack after his death and was arrested after being discharged from hospital on Sunday.

The victim, Anil, was not wearing any safety gear. He had been handed an old rope by the accused to go inside the sewer despite repeated warnings by another labourer who had been asked to help him.

A DJB spokesperson told TOIthat this was unauthorised work. “This was an attempt to make an unauthorised connection into the sewer line. The case is being inquired into,” he added.
