Cong: Is CM waiting for more deaths?

The Times of India (Mumbai edition) - - TIMES CITY -

M aharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) slammed the government over the drought-like conditions in the state and asked if chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was waiting for more deaths to declare a drought. Congress leaders reviewed the situation during a closed-door meeting on Saturday. Later, they told reporters they would make a representation to the CM and governor to take immediate drought mitigation measures, or the party wor- kers would take to the streets.

Former CM and MPCC chief Ashok Chavan said the entire state, particularly Marathwada, Vidarbha and north Maharashtra, were reeling under severe drought-like conditions. “The sowing process of cotton, maze and soya bean has gone waste,” he said. There was no planning in place for drought mitigation, he added.

Chavan said the government has not met its promises, including MSP.
