Thieves break into house, steal cash and ‘kidnap’ 3 pups
Kalyan: You better keep your dogs safe, just like your valuables. Three puppies of foreign breeds were stolen by thieves from an animal lover’s house in Ambivli near Kalyan.
The house owner, Amar Gundulkar (30), said the unidentified thieves broke into the house sometime between late Friday and early Saturday and took away his three pups—two Beagles and a French Mastiff—costing more than Rs 2 lakh. The stolen pups are between three and nine months old. What the thieves did not dare touch were two big dogs. He said that nobody in the neighbourhood reported any barking at night.
Gundulkar has two houses in the Patil Nagar locality. While one house is in a chawl, the other is in a nearby building. Late on Friday, Gundulkar, fed the dogs and took them out for a walk after which he left them in the house in the chawl. He said he usually sleeps in the same house where the dogs are kept, “On Friday night, I was not feeling too well and so I went over to our other house in the building,” said Gundulkar whoworks for an IT company.
He realised only on Saturday morning that the three pups had been stolen. Gundulkar told TOIthat when he reached the house in the morning, he found the house had been broken into. “When I went in, I found the three puppies missing. It appears that the thieves knew well that the pups would fetch them a good price in the market.”
Amar said that he also found Rs 15,000 missing from a locker in the house. A case of theft has been registered against unidentified persons, said said senior inspector Balasaheb Kadam of Khadakpada police station.
While the theft of dogs has surprised people in the neighbourhood, it has left Gundulkar’s 15-year-old niece grieving. “Dikshani was extremely fond of the puppies. She has not eaten all of Saturday on learning that the pups have gone missing,” said Gundulkar. Not only my niece, the entire family is a bit disappointed.”
