Ban on feeding dogs in Mazgaon Gardens raises locals’ hackles

The Times of India (Mumbai edition) - - TIMES CITY -

Mumbai: A board put up by the BMC at the entrance of Byculla’s Joseph Baptista Garden, popularly known as Mazgaon Gardens, has upset animal lovers in the area. The board states that pets cannot be allowed in the garden, which stands above Bhandarwada Hill reservoir, and no animal can be fed there.

Havisha Daisy Irani, a local who has been feeding strays in the garden for years, said, “The strays were left here by the BMC after sterilizing them. Who is going to feed them?”. Garden department officials said the board was placed by the hydraulic engineering department as the place stands on a reservoir.
