Punjab woman gangraped twice in a night, four arrested
Kapurthala: Punjab police have arrested four men after a 24year-old woman alleged that she was gangraped twice on October 10 — first by a group of six men, including her lover, and then by four others.
The woman from Jalandhar alleged she got hooked to heroin about five months ago and befriended two peddlers who conspired the first gangrape. She claimed she met a drug dealer from Kapurthala. The dealer introduced her to his neighbour, with whom she became friends and moved into his house. She said soon she started peddling heroin for him. She was then raped at a birthday party by six men.
She was raped the second time on the same night when she sought help from an acquaintance, from Moga district. She told cops that instead of taking her to the police station, he took her to a room where he and three oth-ers raped her. They are security guards at a Kapurthala distillery .
They later dropped her at a bus stop, from where she walked to the house where the birthday party was being held and narrated her ordeal to the accused’s aunt and grandmother. She said, the two women told her to keep quiet. The survivor said she went to Kapurthala for treatment and on her return was accused of theft by the two women. The women assaulted her and threw her out of the house.
The woman filed a complaint with Kapurthala police, following which the 10 accused were booked under section 376D (gangrape), sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and other relevant sections of IPC. Police arrested the four who had raped her second time. The remaining six are on the run.
