Five returning from Shirdi die in mishap
Five people from Mumbai were killed and one seriously injured when the multi-utility vehicle (MUV) they were travelling in collided with an oncoming private luxury bus on the Shirdi-Sinnar highway in Nashik district on Saturday evening. Two of the deceased were minors. The accident took place near Bhoknegaon under Wavi police station, about 50km from Nashik city, around 6pm.
“The vehicle was returning from Shirdi while the bus was on its way to the temple town. Both vehicles were travelling at high speed and drivers failed to navigate properly while crossing each other on the busy road resulting in a head-on collision,” said Sandeep Borase, assistant inspector, Wavi police station. The impact from the accident left the front portion of the MUV mangled.
The police identified the two dead minors as Paunash Joshi and Rushi Warale. The bodies were sent to the Nashik Civil Hospital for an autopsy. The injured person, a girl admitted to a private hospital in Nashik, was identified as Pauni, Joshi’s sister. The police said 28 people from Mumbai had gone to Shirdi in different vehicles. “They were returning from Shirdi in the evening when the accident took place. We are trying to establish contact with members of the groups,” said the police.
