Five re­turn­ing from Shirdi die in mishap

Five peo­ple from Mum­bai were killed and one se­ri­ously in­jured when the multi-util­ity ve­hi­cle (MUV) they were trav­el­ling in col­lided with an on­com­ing pri­vate lux­ury bus on the Shirdi-Sin­nar high­way in Nashik district on Satur­day evening. Two of the de­ceased were mi­nors. The ac­ci­dent took place near Bhokne­gaon un­der Wavi po­lice sta­tion, about 50km from Nashik city, around 6pm.

“The ve­hi­cle was re­turn­ing from Shirdi while the bus was on its way to the tem­ple town. Both ve­hi­cles were trav­el­ling at high speed and driv­ers failed to nav­i­gate prop­erly while cross­ing each other on the busy road re­sult­ing in a head-on col­li­sion,” said San­deep Bo­rase, as­sis­tant in­spec­tor, Wavi po­lice sta­tion. The im­pact from the ac­ci­dent left the front por­tion of the MUV man­gled.

The po­lice iden­ti­fied the two dead mi­nors as Pau­nash Joshi and Rushi War­ale. The bod­ies were sent to the Nashik Civil Hos­pi­tal for an au­topsy. The in­jured per­son, a girl ad­mit­ted to a pri­vate hos­pi­tal in Nashik, was iden­ti­fied as Pauni, Joshi’s sis­ter. The po­lice said 28 peo­ple from Mum­bai had gone to Shirdi in dif­fer­ent ve­hi­cles. “They were re­turn­ing from Shirdi in the evening when the ac­ci­dent took place. We are try­ing to es­tab­lish con­tact with mem­bers of the groups,” said the po­lice.
