Eight picnickers injured as bus turns turtle on NH-4
Navi Mumbai: A bus with 18 persons on board turned turtle near Mill Thakurwadi on the Mumbai-Pune highway around 5.30 pm on Saturday after the driver lost control of the bus following brake failure. Eight people were injured, and three of them with grievous injuries were shifted to the MGM Hospital in Kamothe and DY Patil Hospital in Nerul.
The mishap occured within a few hundred metres of the Khopoli exit of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The group was heading towards Mangaon in Raigad for a picnic. Over an hour-long traffic jam was witnessed at the mishap site.
The severely injured were Nikhil Pandit, Anil Pandit and Sangeeta Rajgire, while the ones with minor injuries were Piyush Pandit (12), S S Pandit (14), Vishal Pandit, Vishnu Pandit, Nanda Pandit and V R Pandit, all residents of Wanavadi in Pune.
The driver, Adesh Kolhe, was booked. He had planned to use the Khopoli-Pali road. “The schoolbus driver lost control due to brake failure and crashed into the hill before turning turtle,” highway traffic patrol inspector S B Pachorkar said.
