Eight pic­nick­ers in­jured as bus turns tur­tle on NH-4

Navi Mum­bai: A bus with 18 per­sons on board turned tur­tle near Mill Thakur­wadi on the Mum­bai-Pune high­way around 5.30 pm on Satur­day af­ter the driver lost con­trol of the bus fol­low­ing brake fail­ure. Eight peo­ple were in­jured, and three of them with griev­ous in­juries were shifted to the MGM Hos­pi­tal in Kamothe and DY Patil Hos­pi­tal in Nerul.

The mishap oc­cured within a few hun­dred me­tres of the Khopoli exit of the Mum­bai-Pune Ex­press­way. The group was head­ing to­wards Man­gaon in Raigad for a pic­nic. Over an hour-long traf­fic jam was wit­nessed at the mishap site.

The se­verely in­jured were Nikhil Pan­dit, Anil Pan­dit and Sangeeta Ra­j­gire, while the ones with mi­nor in­juries were Piyush Pan­dit (12), S S Pan­dit (14), Vishal Pan­dit, Vishnu Pan­dit, Nanda Pan­dit and V R Pan­dit, all res­i­dents of Wanavadi in Pune.

The driver, Adesh Kolhe, was booked. He had planned to use the Khopoli-Pali road. “The school­bus driver lost con­trol due to brake fail­ure and crashed into the hill be­fore turn­ing tur­tle,” high­way traf­fic pa­trol in­spec­tor S B Pa­chorkar said.
