Man caught us­ing bea­con, tries to es­cape

Navi Mum­bai: A mo­torist, Swap­nil Ba­mane (27), has been booked for us­ing an am­ber bea­con by plac­ing it on his car’s dash­board. When a head con­sta­ble spot­ted the bea­con in the car in Kharghar on the SionPan­vel high­way on Fri­day af­ter­noon and tried to stop the Ba­mane, the lat­ter tried to flee. How­ever, Ba­mane ran out of luck as he got caught up in a traf­fic jam.

Maruti Sanap (46) reg­is­tered an FIR at Kharghar po­lice sta­tion. Ba­mane, a Digha res­i­dent, is a driver of a bank em­ployee.

He was booked un­der sec­tions 419 (pun­ish­ment for cheat­ing by per­son­ation) and 171 (wear­ing garb or car­ry­ing to­ken used by pub­lic ser­vant with fraud­u­lent in­tent) of IPC along with Sec­tion108 (pro­hibits use of am­ber bea­con for those other than gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials) of Cen­tral Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle Act. He showed the vis­it­ing card of an MLA and said he worked for him. —Ge­orge Men­donca
