Former Goa CM Churchill to be charged for graft in tenders
Panaji: The crime branch of Goa police has decided to file a chargesheet against NCP legislator and former chief minisater and the then PWD minister, Churchill Alemao, and PWD official P T Parkar for alleged corruption in 258 tenders for road work and misappropriation funds to the tune of Rs 300 crore. “We have completed probe in the case and will file chargesheet next week against them,” crime branch SP Karthik Kashyap told TOI.
The FIR was registered against the duo and other government officials and contractors. Crime branch had filed a case under IPC sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property), 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) & under Prevention of Corruption Act.
The FIR said the accused floated 13 short tender notices pertaining to 258 road works as urgency works and 89 of these (costing over Rs 5 lakh) were not published in any newspaper, thereby removing the prospect of any competition, which resulted in non-sale of tender forms, causing a loss.
