BMC wants 2nd video wall to keep eye on city
Mumbai: A proposal to ha- ve a replica of the existing ‘video wall’ to keep tabs on strategic locations in the ci- ty is under the civic body’s consideration. The only ‘video wall’ at the disaster management control room gives live feed from 5,000 CCTV cameras placed across the city. The feed is made available to the police. At a time feed from 50 cameras is seen on the wall.
A replica of the video wall is being created. Estimated to cost Rs 4 crore, the proposal for the same is slated to be tabled for approval before in the civic house on Wednesday.
During monsoon, this footage is helpful to check water-logged areas and to monitor traffic.
Disaster management unit officials said they want to ensure that the feed is available alternatively. “In case of a breakdown at the current unit, the alternative video wall will get activated within seconds,” said a civic official.
