BMC wants 2nd video wall to keep eye on city

Mum­bai: A pro­posal to ha- ve a replica of the ex­ist­ing ‘video wall’ to keep tabs on strate­gic lo­ca­tions in the ci- ty is un­der the civic body’s con­sid­er­a­tion. The only ‘video wall’ at the disas­ter man­age­ment con­trol room gives live feed from 5,000 CCTV cam­eras placed across the city. The feed is made avail­able to the po­lice. At a time feed from 50 cam­eras is seen on the wall.

A replica of the video wall is be­ing cre­ated. Es­ti­mated to cost Rs 4 crore, the pro­posal for the same is slated to be tabled for ap­proval be­fore in the civic house on Wed­nes­day.

Dur­ing mon­soon, this footage is help­ful to check water-logged ar­eas and to mon­i­tor traf­fic.

Disas­ter man­age­ment unit of­fi­cials said they want to en­sure that the feed is avail­able al­ter­na­tively. “In case of a break­down at the cur­rent unit, the al­ter­na­tive video wall will get ac­ti­vated within sec­onds,” said a civic of­fi­cial.
