Ad­mis­sions for RTE seats from Feb 25

Mum­bai: The ed­u­ca­tion depart­ment has rolled out the on­line ad­mis­sion process for the 25% seats re­served un­der the Right to Ed­u­ca­tion Act at un­aided non-mi­nor­ity schools in the state for the next aca­demic year. On­line ap­pli­ca­tions can be given from Fe­bru­ary 25.

In Mum­bai, the mu­nic­i­pal cor­po­ra­tion which im­ple­ments ad­mis­sions in the city is cur­rently ac­cept­ing reg­is­tra­tions from schools. Ac­cord­ing to a cir­cu­lar is­sued by the pri­mary school direc­torate, schools can reg­is­ter up to Fe­bru­ary 22. The web­site will be­gin ac­cept­ing ap­pli­ca­tions from par­ents on Fe­bru­ary 25. The dead­line to sub­mit on­line ap­pli­ca­tions is March 11.

“De­tails on how to ap­ply, doc­u­ments re­quired and the process will be up­loaded on the web­site soon and ad­ver­tised through help cen­tres,” said an of­fi­cial.

Once ap­pli­ca­tions are ver­i­fied, the first lot­tery will be on March 14. Stu­dents will be al­lot­ted schools and will have to sub­mit orig­i­nal doc­u­ments to con­firm ad­mis­sions.

Last year, five ad­mis­sion rounds were held for more than 8,000 seats. About 3,500 of 10,000 ap­pli­cants got ad­mis­sion. While ac­tivists blamed the civic body, the civic body said it was de­mand-sup­ply mis­match with 72 schools re­ceiv­ing zero ap­pli­ca­tions.
