Teen drowns in Bhiwandi swimming pool
Two private buses that were seized by the RTO caught fire at the MSRTC depot in Kurla on Sunday. The fire spread to two private cars which too had been seized and parked nearby. Firemen reached the spot and doused the flames. Nobody was injured. RTO officials said that they have been allowed to keep seized vehicles in the depot compound due to dearth of parking space in the city. Bhiwandi: A 19-year-old youth, Farman Parvez Khan, drowned in a civic body-run swimming pool in Bhiwandi on Sunday afternoon. The victim, who had recently taken the Army recruitment exams, was a resident of Balajinagar area in Bhiwandi.
Khan, along with his three friends, had gone for a swim to Tawre stadium run by Bhiwandi-Nizampura Municipal Corporation.
Police said there were around 20 people in the pool when Khan's friends realized he was missing. They initially thought he was playing a prank, but when he failed to surface, they along with three lifeguards pulled him out and rushed him to hospital where he was declared dead.—Pradeep Gupta
