Teen drowns in Bhi­wandi swim­ming pool

Two pri­vate buses that were seized by the RTO caught fire at the MSRTC de­pot in Kurla on Sun­day. The fire spread to two pri­vate cars which too had been seized and parked nearby. Fire­men reached the spot and doused the flames. No­body was in­jured. RTO of­fi­cials said that they have been al­lowed to keep seized ve­hi­cles in the de­pot com­pound due to dearth of park­ing space in the city. Bhi­wandi: A 19-year-old youth, Far­man Parvez Khan, drowned in a civic body-run swim­ming pool in Bhi­wandi on Sun­day af­ter­noon. The vic­tim, who had re­cently taken the Army re­cruit­ment ex­ams, was a res­i­dent of Bala­ji­na­gar area in Bhi­wandi.

Khan, along with his three friends, had gone for a swim to Tawre sta­dium run by Bhi­wandi-Nizam­pura Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion.

Po­lice said there were around 20 peo­ple in the pool when Khan's friends re­al­ized he was miss­ing. They ini­tially thought he was play­ing a prank, but when he failed to sur­face, they along with three life­guards pulled him out and rushed him to hos­pi­tal where he was de­clared dead.—Pradeep Gupta
