‘5 held for Naxal links planned event at JNU’

The Ma­ha­rash­tra gov­ern­ment told a ses­sions court in Pune on Thurs­day that the five peo­ple ar­rested on June 6 for their role in or­gan­is­ing the El­gar Par­ishad in the city a day be­fore the vi­o­lent Jan­uary 1 clashes in Kore­gaon-Bhima had planned an event at JNU in Delhi in mem­ory of slain Naxal leader Naveen Babu.

Gov­ern­ment pleader Ujjwala Pawar said ac­tivists Sud­hir Dhawale and Rona Wilson, aca­demi­cian Soma Sen, PMRD fel­low Ma­hesh Raut and lawyer Suren­dra Gadling were act­ing un­der “direct in­struc­tions from the CPI (Maoist)” for car­ry­ing out un­law­ful ac­tiv­i­ties, which in­cluded the pro­posed event at JNU.
