Man burnt to death in MP mob violence

Bhopal: Violence broke out in Hoshangabad around midnight on Wednesday after a sand-laden dumper ran over a 28-year-old farmer near Gujjarwada village. A mob torched 24 dumpers, and a charred body was found in the smouldering battle zone on Thursday morning.

The area is still tense and additional forces have been deployed. Sand mining is banned in the Narmada river basin but police claim the killer dumper — and those torched — were carrying sand mined from a tributary river of Narmada.

Congress lost no time in attacking the BJP government on the issue. PCC chief Kamal Nath said: “Illegal sand mining is rampant in the entire state. If there is a river, there is mining, and if there is mining there must be a BJP leader.”
