Threat to life from accused: Kathua witness
Chandigarh: One of the 22 witnesses in the infamous Kathua rape and murder case has alleged threat to his life after recording his statement before the trial court in Pathankot.
Jammu SSP (crime) Ramesh Kumar Jalla filed an application on Thursday before the district and sessions judge, Tejwinder Singh, alleging that a witness had received threats from the accused facing trial in Pathankot.
Advocate AK Sawhney told TOI that Jalla’s application appeared to involve some vested interests. “If the witness was receiving threats, he should have informed the judge or could have given a complaint to the Pathankot or Jammu police. It is not Jalla’s job to move applications on behalf of the witnesses. We will file a written reply before the court on Friday,” Sawhney added.
The district and sessions judge on Thursday also directed the superintendent of Kathua district jail to help families of the accused meet them. The court passed the directions after family members of some of the accused had requested permission to meet them Their plea was that the accused were being shiftedto Pathankot , making it impossible for their families to meet them.
