At­tack on press free­dom: Rathore

B min­is­ter Ra­jyavard­han Rathore con­demned the killing of se­nior Kash­miri jour­nal­ist Shu­jaat Bukhari on Thurs­day. “As­sas­si­na­tion of Shu­jaat Bukhari is a bru­tal at­tack on free­dom of press. A cow­ardly and de­plorable act of ter­ror. Our fear­less me­dia is one of the great­est strength of our democ­racy...” Rathore tweeted. hari is a new low in a rapidly de­te­ri­o­rat­ing en­vi­ron­ment for me­dia prac­ti­tion­ers in Kash­mir, in par­tic­u­lar, and in the coun­try in gen­eral. We call upon the state and cen­tral gov­ern­ments to en­hance se­cu­rity for all jour­nal­ists in J&K.” the guild said.

“We de­mand that the das­tardly forces re­spon­si­ble for his (Bukhari’s) killing should be brought to book by the J&K gov­ern­ment at the ear­li­est,” the In­dian Women’s Press Corps, Press As­so­ci­a­tion, and Fed­er­a­tion of Press Clubs of In­dia , said.
