Poll strategist PK joins Nitish’s party
strategist Prashant Kishor (41) joined Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) on Sunday, less than a week since announcing he would not work on election planning for any political party. Kishor, who belongs to Rohtas, was considered instrumental in the victories of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar in the last Lok Sabha and Bihar assembly elections, respectively. He had resigned as UN mission chief in Africa in 2011 and had started working with Modi, then the Gujarat CM, in 2012.
The move is considered significant in the light of Nitish hinting at a state cabinet expansion and asserting to JD(U) state executive committee members during a meeting on Sunday that the party had reached a “sammanjanak samjhauta” (respectable agreement) with BJP on seat-sharing for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. month. As per rules, Bihar can have 35 cabinet ministers. Seven of these posts are vacant. The CM also said the vacant posts in boards and corporations would be filled up in the coming months.
The closed-door meeting was held for nearly four hours. Apart from senior leaders, Prashant Kishor, who formally joined the party on Sunday, also attended the meeting.
