Poll strate­gist PK joins Ni­tish’s party

strate­gist Prashant Kishor (41) joined Bi­har chief min­is­ter Ni­tish Ku­mar’s JD(U) on Sun­day, less than a week since an­nounc­ing he would not work on elec­tion plan­ning for any po­lit­i­cal party. Kishor, who be­longs to Ro­htas, was con­sid­ered in­stru­men­tal in the vic­to­ries of Prime Min­is­ter Naren­dra Modi and Ni­tish Ku­mar in the last Lok Sabha and Bi­har as­sem­bly elec­tions, re­spec­tively. He had re­signed as UN mis­sion chief in Africa in 2011 and had started work­ing with Modi, then the Gu­jarat CM, in 2012.

The move is con­sid­ered sig­nif­i­cant in the light of Ni­tish hint­ing at a state cab­i­net ex­pan­sion and as­sert­ing to JD(U) state ex­ec­u­tive com­mit­tee mem­bers dur­ing a meet­ing on Sun­day that the party had reached a “sam­man­janak samjhauta” (re­spectable agree­ment) with BJP on seat-shar­ing for the 2019 Lok Sabha elec­tions. month. As per rules, Bi­har can have 35 cab­i­net min­is­ters. Seven of these posts are va­cant. The CM also said the va­cant posts in boards and cor­po­ra­tions would be filled up in the com­ing months.

The closed-door meet­ing was held for nearly four hours. Apart from se­nior lead­ers, Prashant Kishor, who for­mally joined the party on Sun­day, also at­tended the meet­ing.
