Hyderabad: At least 29 of 119 returning officers, including few IAS and IFoS officials of revenue divisional officer rank and above appointed for each assembly constituency, have to retake the election duty exam as they failed to secure above 80% marks. Also, 90 assistant returning officers of 251 in Telangana have to rewrite the test as they scored less than 80% — the benchmark.
Telangana chief electoral officer Rajat Kumar said, “We completed training for ROs and AROs for all 119 assembly constituencies in Telangana. At least one-third ROs and AROs have to repeat. Election authorities conducted training for elections and certification examination in Hyderabad for all officers across the state between October 24 and October 27 at Telan- Of 15 returning officers above RDO rank, only two failed to clear the exam while one was absent. Another RO joined later for training. Two IAS officials working as ROs in Hyderabad were certified by clearing the exam. Most of the 40 AROs of the rank of deputy tahsildar and deputy municipal commissioner failed in the exam gana State Institute of Rural Development in Rajendranagar. At least17 resource people, including senior EC officers from Delhi and national level master trainers conducted sessions in eight batches for ROs and AROs. According to authorities, if ROs and AROs fail the exam again, they will not be posted on duty and fresh candidates will be enlisted. Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar said on Friday that the ballot paper would remain pink in colour for the Telangana legislative assembly polls as per the Act. The CEO had sought clarification from the Election Commission following a complaint from Congress which said that the pink ballot paper can influence the voter to vote for TRS as the colour of the flag of the party is pink.
“The ECI said as polls are being conducted only for Telangana legislative assembly, the voter slip will be white and ballot paper(on EVM) will be pink as per the provisions of the Representation of the People’s Act,” Rajat said .
