Fauji wanted for his role in Bu­land­shahr vi­o­lence held

Meerut: Ji­ten­dra Ma­lik, an Army man from 22 Rashtriya Ri­fles and posted in So­pore, Jammu and Kash­mir, was ar­rested by UP STF in Jammu on Satur­day. Ma­lik alias Jeetu Fauji is one of the 27 ac­cused in the vi­o­lence over al­leged cow slaugh­ter in which a po­lice in­spec­tor and a youth were killed. He would be handed over to the SIT prob­ing the vi­o­lence

Ac­cord­ing to highly placed po­lice sources, Army de­tained Ma­lik in Jammu early in the day. An STF team of UP Po­lice, which had gone to Jammu to track him, was bring­ing Jeetu to Meerut where he would be handed over to the SIT. An army of­fi­cer was also ac­com­pa­ny­ing the team from Jammu to Meerut, sources said.

“The team was caught up in the pro­ce­dural de­lays. Ji­ten­dra is be­ing brought to Meerut where he will be handed over to the SIT,” a se­nior STF of­fi­cer privy to the in- ves­ti­ga­tion told TOI.

An ar­rest war­rant had been is­sued against him af­ter in­ves­ti­ga­tors came to know that Ma­lik had es­caped from the spot of vi­o­lence and joined his unit. Jeetu had come to his vil­lage Ma­hav on a 15day leave which was to end on Tues­day. How­ever, he was found in­volved in vi­o­lence over cow slaugh­ter a day be­fore and left for his unit in So­pore.

Mean­while, his brother Dhar­men­dra Ma­lik, who is also an army man, claimed the Jeetu was in­no­cent and was be­ing framed by po­lice. Dhar­men­dra re­turned to his na­tive vil­lage af­ter read­ing me­dia re­ports about his brother be­ing in­volved in vi­o­lence and the killing of In­spec­tor Singh. “If cops have ev­i­dence to prove that my brother is a killer, I also have proof that he was not at the spot. He is be­ing wrongly framed,” Dhar­men­dra said.
