Dy sarpanch, a former Maoist, shot by Naxals
Raipur: A former Maoist, who was serving as a deputy sarpanch, was gunned down by a group of Naxalites at a village in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division on Thursday.
Police said 39-year-old Manku Potai, the deceased, had surrendered before Narayanpur police in 2016. After his surrender, Potai was elected deputy sarpanch.
Piqued by the rising popularity of Potai and his bonhomie with police, the Maoists decided to eliminate him. The Maoists were also angry because Potai had refused to attend a recent meeting called by them.
