New Delhi: Al­most three years ago, Delhi Po­lice be­gan in­ves­ti­ga­tions into the con­tro­ver­sial al­le­ga­tions of sedi­tion levied against some Jawa­har­lal Nehru Univer­sity (JNU) stu­dents. On Sun­day, the spe­cial cell wound up the probe, took nec­es­sary sanc­tions from the Delhi Po­lice com­mis­sioner and the pros­e­cu­tion and is now all set to file the chargesheet in the case against 10 peo­ple, in­clud­ing for­mer JNU Stu­dents Union pres­i­dent Kan­haiya Ku­mar, Syed Umar Khalid and Anir­ban Bhattacharya.

As first re­ported by TOI on Septem­ber 12, 2018, the oth­ers named in the chargesheet are Kash­miri res­i­dents, Aquib Hus­sain, Mu­jeeb Hus-

The chargesheet is likely to be filed in Pa­tiala House court on Mon­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the in­ves­ti­ga­tion, Kan­haiya led the pro­test­ers on the evening of Fe­bru­ary 9 . The po­lice have found that the for­mal­i­ties re­quired to ob­tain per­mis­sion

for con­duct­ing any event at JNU were not com­pleted. The group was stopped and in­formed that they did not have per­mis­sion to pro­ceed.

“To this, Kan­haiya came for­ward, had an ar­gu­ment with the se­cu­rity per­son­nel and then led the mob while rais­ing slo­gans,” the chargesheet says.
