Honey-trapped soldier spied for ISI, held

An Army jawan, ar­rested on charges of es­pi­onage after be­ing honey-trapped, was paid for shar­ing strate­gic in­for­ma­tion to Pak­istan ISI, po­lice said on Sun­day. He was ar­rested in Jaisalmer on Fri­day.

The jawan, iden­ti­fied as Som­bir, from Haryana, joined the Army in 2016, Ra­jasthan po­lice said.

A fake ac­count in the name of Anika Cho­pra ap­proached Som­bir on so­cial me­dia seven months ago, the po­lice said, adding she, iden­ti­fy­ing her­self as an of­fi­cer of Army Med­i­cal Corps in Jammu, be­friended him. She then sought se­cret in­for­ma­tion from him. The so­cial me­dia ac­count was orig­i­nated from Karachi, the po­lice said.
