Merc knocks down two; driver ar­rested

New Delhi: Two youths rid­ing back home from Murthal were in­jured after their mo­tor­cy­cle was rammed by a speed­ing Mercedes near Pun­jabi Bagh on Satur­day night. Po­lice said that the car was tracked down on Sun­day, and the driver was ar­rested from his home.

The in­ci­dent was re­ported around 2am. Po­lice said that Ravin­dra and Ro­hit work at a fast food chain in Gur­gaon and had gone to Murthal along with two other col­leagues, Vinod and Vicky, for a late din­ner. Ravin­dra was rid­ing pil­lion on Ro­hit’s bike.

Vicky and Vinod told the po­lice that when they had reached Pun­jabi Bagh cre­ma­tion ground at the mouth of the fly­over, the Mercedes drove zigzag and hit Ro­hit’s bike. The two flew off and landed a few me­tres ahead. The driver of the car stopped to check on them be­fore flee­ing.

Vicky and Vinod rushed the vic­tims to a hos­pi­tal with the help of passersby and in­formed the po­lice.

A case un­der caus­ing hurt due to neg­li­gence and neg­li­gent driv­ing was reg­is­tered. Dur­ing the probe, cops found the num­ber plate of the car at the spot and tracked down the owner Man­jeet, a res­i­dent of the area. Man­jeet’s driver Ga­gan Singh was driv­ing the car at the time of the in­ci­dent and was ar­rested.

Po­lice said that both Ro­hit and Ravin­dra are un­der ob­ser­va­tion at a pri­vate hos­pi­tal but are in stable con­di­tion.
