Genpact case arrests stayed till Mar 6
Greater Noida: The Allahabad high court has issued an interim stay on the arrest of Genpact employees, who have been accused of abetting the suicide of assistant vice-president Swaroop Raj last month.
On Friday, a division bench of Justices Manoj Mishra and Vivek Singh fixed the next date of hearing on March 6 and directed police to either submit the chargesheet or record the statements of the accused during the pe- riod. Swaroop, who was suspended from the company on December 18 following complaints of sexual harassment against him, had committed suicide that day itself.
Based on a complaint filed by Swaroop’s wife Kriti, a case of abetment to suicide was filed against the two complainants, the Genpact management and members of the company’s internal complaints committee.
Genpact had filed a petition against any arrest in the case, claiming there was “no instigation on the company”.
Katyayni, the lawyer representing Swaroop’s family, said the high court had directed police against taking any coercive action till March 6. “During this period, the police will either have to submit the chargesheet or at least record the statements of the accused,” Katyayni said.
Muneesh Chauhan, the SHO of Surajpur police station and the investigating officer in the case, said he was yet to receive a copy of the court order.
