Telangana 2nd state to start 10% quota

Telangana is set to be the second state, after Gujarat, to implement the 10% forward quota in education and jobs. Andhra Pradesh, too, is framing rules for implementation of the quota.

Telangana chief secretary S K Joshi said on Monday though it wasn’t mandatory to extend the quota to state government jobs and educational institutes — the Act that the President had okayed grants reservation in central jobs and education — Telangana could tweak the Act to implement the quota. It could reduce the creamy layer upper limit of Rs 8 lakh a year, if the law allowed it, sources said. “The 10% quota is also for the poor from SC/ST and OBCs,” they said.
