2 women kidnap 3-yr-old to sell her to trafficker, held near Jama Masjid
New Delhi: Two women, suspected to be part of a child-trafficking gang, were nabbed near Jama Masjid for kidnapping a three-year-old girl. CCTV footage from a camera installed for VIP security showed them carrying the child and led to their arrest. Efforts were being made to nab other members of the gang, police said.
DCP (central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said the girl’s parents approached the police at Jama Masjid on January 11 with a missing complaint. A case of kidnapping was registered and teams were deployed to carry out investigations. While scanning CCTV footage, cops spotted two women boarding an autorickshaw with a child. Another woman was already seated in the auto. “A team was formed to look for them and the autorickshaw was traced to Shastri Park. However, the women were not found at the place where they were dropped. Two days later, they were again found roaming near Jama Masjid and arrested,” DCP Randhawa said.
The women, Sahili and Rani, told police that they were childhood friends and had dropped out of school after Class X. As the earnings of their husbands — who worked as labourers — weren’t enough to meet their daily needs, the two friends set up a tailoring shop. One of their customers, Komal, offered them good money if they could help them kidnap a child.
Police suspect Komal to be the kingpin of the racket.
As per Komal’s instruction, the two reached Jama Masjid on Friday. They spotted a kid playing there with her sibling. They quietly picked her up and walked away. They told the police that Komal, who was waiting in an autorickshaw, offered them a ride. They were dropped at Shastri Park. Rani told cops that they were given Rs 5,000 and asked to keep custody of the child for two days as Komal expected police to stop looking for the kid by then. They were scheduled to meet Komal on Sunday and hand over the child. Komal had arranged for a “customer” for the child in the meantime, they told police.
A case of kidnapping has been registered against the two women. A hunt is on for Komal, an officer said.
CAUGHT ON CAMERA: The women, Sahili and Rani, received 5,000 from the suspected gang leader for kidnapping the child
