To solve housing crunch, govt kicks off int’l challenge
Technology Challenge, Union housing minister Hardeep Singh Puri said there is a need to look for new emerging, disaster-resilient, environment-friendly, cost-effective and speedy construction technologies. “The shift in technology transition will also address the challenges of large-scale housing construc- tion in minimum time and cost with optimum use of resources and environment friendly practices,” he said.
The primary aim is to select the most cost-effective technology to speed up construction of affordable housing to meet the target of building nearly 1.2 crore houses by 2022. Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said houses need to be built in four to five months to meet the growing demand as India urbanises fast.
