To solve hous­ing crunch, govt kicks off int’l chal­lenge

Tech­nol­ogy Chal­lenge, Union hous­ing min­is­ter Hardeep Singh Puri said there is a need to look for new emerg­ing, disas­ter-re­silient, en­vi­ron­ment-friendly, cost-ef­fec­tive and speedy con­struc­tion tech­nolo­gies. “The shift in tech­nol­ogy tran­si­tion will also ad­dress the chal­lenges of large-scale hous­ing con­struc- tion in min­i­mum time and cost with op­ti­mum use of re­sources and en­vi­ron­ment friendly prac­tices,” he said.

The pri­mary aim is to se­lect the most cost-ef­fec­tive tech­nol­ogy to speed up con­struc­tion of af­ford­able hous­ing to meet the tar­get of build­ing nearly 1.2 crore houses by 2022. Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said houses need to be built in four to five months to meet the grow­ing de­mand as In­dia ur­banises fast.
