Couple held for cheating investors
New Delhi: A couple accused of duping several investors of Rs 30 crore was arrested from south Delhi on Saturday. The accused, Vinod and Preeti Bansal, were wanted by CBI and Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police in several cases taken a loan of around Rs 10 crore from private investors.
In 2006, Vinod was arrested for cheating several people by convincing them to invest in a non-existent group housing project. After being released from jail, he started luring people into investing in schools.
Vinod purchased a property in south Delhi’s Green Park and mortgaged it to a bank. However, he sold the property floor-wise to several people without informing them about the mortgage. He was arrested again in 2016, but granted bail. This time, however, he absconded and failed to appear for court hearings, police said.
“We tracked his location using technical surveillance,” DCP Kumar added.
