Cou­ple held for cheat­ing in­vestors

New Delhi: A cou­ple ac­cused of dup­ing sev­eral in­vestors of Rs 30 crore was ar­rested from south Delhi on Satur­day. The ac­cused, Vinod and Preeti Bansal, were wanted by CBI and Eco­nomic Of­fences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Po­lice in sev­eral cases taken a loan of around Rs 10 crore from pri­vate in­vestors.

In 2006, Vinod was ar­rested for cheat­ing sev­eral peo­ple by con­vinc­ing them to in­vest in a non-ex­is­tent group hous­ing project. Af­ter be­ing re­leased from jail, he started lur­ing peo­ple into in­vest­ing in schools.

Vinod pur­chased a prop­erty in south Delhi’s Green Park and mort­gaged it to a bank. How­ever, he sold the prop­erty floor-wise to sev­eral peo­ple without in­form­ing them about the mort­gage. He was ar­rested again in 2016, but granted bail. This time, how­ever, he ab­sconded and failed to ap­pear for court hear­ings, po­lice said.

“We tracked his lo­ca­tion us­ing tech­ni­cal sur­veil­lance,” DCP Ku­mar added.
