Fly­ers held with forex worth 92L

New Delhi: A male and a fe­male pas­sen­ger — aged around 70 years — were ar­rested at the IGI air­port af­ter they were caught try­ing to smug­gle out for­eign cur­rency worth nearly Rs 92 lakh. The for­eign cur­rency, in Eu­ros and Dirham, was found con­cealed in the hand bag­gage of the ac­cused, who were headed to Dubai.

Cus­toms of­fi­cials said the in­ci­dent took place on Fri­day night with the pas­sen­gers in­ter­cepted when they were headed to board a flight EK 511 from Ter­mi­nal-3. A de­tailed bag­gage and per­sonal search was car­ried out for both pas­sen­gers with for­eign cur­rency worth Rs 92 lakh found con­cealed in the bag­gage.

“The bag was checked based on ran­dom pro­fil­ing,” said a Cus­toms of­fi­cial.
