No job, man jumps off flyover in E Delhi
New Delhi: A 31-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the Mayur Vihar flyover in east Delhi on Friday. The victim’s diary revealed that he was under pressure to get a job.
DCP (east) Jasmeet Singh said that the victim has been identified as Saurabh Kumar Rajpoot and an inquest proceeding under Section 174 of the CrPC has been initiated.
As per a preliminary probe, Rajpoot walked up to the flyover on Friday evening and allegedly jumped. Passersby alerted the cops and he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. He had suffered multiple fractures and injuries to his head.
Initially, it was suspected that the man may have met with an accident on the highway but probe indicated that he may have jumped off the structure. Rajpoot’s body was moved into the mortuary and his family members, who live in Buxar district in Bihar, were informed.
Investigation revealed that Rajpoot had an engineering degree from a college in Buxar and he had come to Delhi three months ago looking for a job. He had rented a room in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar and had applied in various companies. However, he had not landed any work and the contents of his diary revealed that he felt pressure to support his family. The victim’s parents also told police that during conversations with them, Rajpoot was tensed and depressed over not getting a job.
Police are scanning CCTV footage from the area and analysing his phone for further probe. They have also contacted the friends and neighbours of the victim to obtain more details.
