Malappuram: Police have booked a 36-year-old woman for allegedly raping her nineyear-old nephew in Malappuram district’s Thenhippalam area for the last one year.

The crime came to light after the boy revealed it to a doctor, who in turn, alerted Childline authorities. Childline officials recorded the child’s statement and forwarded a complaint to police.

Childline officials said the boy was subjected to sexual abuse for more than a year. “The prolonged sexual assault has affected his mental health. The accused is his aunt and lives near his house,” said Childline (Malappuram) coordinator Anwar Karakkadan.

“We have learnt that there was a dispute between the family of the survivor and accused. We have to check whether the allegation is linked to the dispute,” he said.
