Guntur: A day before N Chandrababu Naidu joins opposition parties for a sit-in in New Delhi against the Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused the Andhra Pradesh chief minister of splurging public funds for political gains. In his first visit to AP after the TDP leader walked out of NDA, the PM demanded that Naidu make public the accounts of his spending before reaching Delhi for the protest.

Modi, who was in Guntur on a whirlwind tour amid criticism by the ruling TDP of neglecting Andhra Pradesh, launched projects worth Rs 9,200 crore for the state even as the CM decided to stay away from extending protocol courtesy to the PM. The chief secretary and other senior officials, too, confined themselves to only according welcome to Modi at Vijayawada airport and skipping the official programme in Guntur.

Dubbing Naidu as the “most opportunistic leader on the earth”, Modi talked about his U-turns during his long political career. “Naidu has never won a second term in succession in his life. Fearing a certain defeat in the next elections, Naidu had de-

Andhra Vijayawada / Guntur: The ongoing fight between TDP and BJP over special category status for AP turned personal on Sunday with prime minister Narendra Modi choosing to address chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu as the “father of Nara Lokesh”.

Naidu hit back saying that he takes pride in being the father of his minister-son Lokesh. “I’m the proud father of Nara Lokesh and I love to be called as the father of Lokesh. Could you admit that you are the proud husband of Jashodaben?” Naidu said. The CM said he is a family man and has always cared for his family members. “But Modi never cared for his family,” he said.

“I never touch personal issues, but comments made by Modi forced me to make personal comments. I’m proud of my family members. They never depended on me or my political prowess. I’m a family man and I love to spend time with them. Modi doesn’t have a family and he is unaware of family bondings and relationships,” said Naidu. “My wife Bhuvaneswari, who started Heritage, had worked hard to achieve success in the business. She never depended on me,” Naidu added.
