Two mi­grant work­ers mur­dered in As­sam

: Two per­sons from East Mid­na­pore, who had gone to As­sam to work as ma­sons, were mur­dered in the Doom Dooma po­lice sta­tion area on Satur­day. Two other work­ers were se­ri­ously in­jured af­ter their hands were chopped off by the mis­cre­ants when they tried to res­cue the two vic­tims. The vic­tims — Seikh Idris Ali (52) of Gopal­na­gar and Seikh Muhummed of Garh Pu­ru­sot­tam­pur, both un­der Pan­skura po­lice sta­tion — had gone to As­sam a month-and-a-half ago with the help of a lo­cal con­trac­tor. A probe into the in­ci­dent is on and po­lice said the rea­son for the al­ter­ca­tion is not known.
