South corpn to geo-tag its parks and open gyms
New Delhi: Finding a park for recreation purpose, playing area for children or open gym in your neighbourhood won’t be a herculean task any more.
The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has launched a project ‘Know your park or gym’ under which it will geo-tag all recreational facilities such as parks, open gyms, playing spots (like Nandan Van and other areas developed in markets) and share their information on 311 app.
The purpose of the project is to make interested residents aware of these facilities and use them as per their convenience, said a senior SDMC official.
The IT department has already started giving training to section officers for mapping longitude and latitude of these sites.
“This will help them to mark the exact location of these places and share them on app. People can use the tool to locate these sites. Trained horticulture officials will further help other staff to cover all parks with such facilities in their areas in a time-bound manner,” said Kamaljeet Sherawat, leader of house, SDMC.
There are more than 6,822 parks in SDMC’s jurisdiction and of them, 1,050 have gyms and 850 parks have playing equipment for kids. “But everyone is not aware of their locations. We have even wards where 50% of the parks have facilities for gym or playing area. Geotagging is an effort to help visitors get the exact location of our popular parks such as Nandan Van and Wonder of Worlds. Similarly, parks which are recently developed or are coming up for kids will also be added in the list,” said a senior SDMC official.
