Beat con­sta­ble in a soup for drink­ing on duty in E Delhi

New Delhi: On find­ing out that some men were drink­ing in the open in a DDA park in east Delhi’s Vivek Vi­har, the area beat con­sta­ble joined the men for a drink in­stead of stop­ping and fin­ing them. The in­ci­dent hap­pened on Fri­day. The cop in ques­tion, con­sta­ble Kapil, is posted at the Vivek Vi­har po­lice sta­tion.

Sources said a func­tion was tak­ing place in the park and a group of men were drink­ing be­hind a tent. Con­sta­ble Kapil ap­proached the men and al­legedly ac­cepted a glass of al­co­hol in­stead of stop­ping and fin­ing them.

An on­looker recorded the in­ci­dent and the clip went vi­ral on so­cial me­dia. It came to the no­tice of se­nior of­fi­cers, who have ini­ti­ated ac­tion. DCP (Shahdara) Amit Sharma said the sus­pen­sion or­der has been is­sued against the cop and de­part­men­tal in­quiry is be­ing con­ducted into the in­ci­dent.
