Govt blames all but itself for eco slump: Cong on FM’s cab remark

The Times of India (New Delhi edition) - - Times Nation - TIMES NEWS NETWORK

New Delhi: Slamming Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s remark that automobile sector slowdown was due to change in mindset of millennials who preferred “Ola, Uber”, Congress on Wednesday said the government was ready to blame everyone except itself for the economic woes of the country. The party asked why was PM Modi silent on slowdown while being eloquent on other issues.

AICC spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said, “Applying the FM’s logic, are landlords and millennials who go for rented accommodations responsible for recession in the real estate market? Are spendthrift homemakers responsible for the rising fiscal deficit? Has the workforce reduced by 90 lakh from 2012 to 2018 because family businesses are growing and hence employment is going down? This logic must apply if the FM’s logic is correct.”

He said the minister’s argument would suggest that stock market has crashed to a 17-year low because of earthquake and not because of economic conditions. Singhvi lamented that finance minister was interested in “cracking jokes” instead of putting India on a recovery path.
