Peru shock Brazil 1-0 on Abram’s header

Luis Abram scored his first in­ter­na­tional goal on a header in the 85th minute, and Peru ended Brazil’s 17-game un­beaten streak since last year’s World Cup with a 1-0 vic­tory Tues­day night. Peru shock­ingly pulled out only its sec­ond win over Brazil in 21 matches af­ter Abram slipped into the box and nod­ded home Yoshi­mar Yo­tun’s free kick. Abram is a 23-year-old de­fender who plays pro­fes­sion­ally in Ar­gentina for mid-ta­ble Velez Sars­field, but he man­aged to outscore a star-stud­ded Brazil­ian lineup.

Elke­son’s brace seals China’s win

Seoul: Brazil­ian-born striker Elke­son scored twice on his de­but for China in a 5-0 win over the Mal­dives in a World Cup qual­i­fier on Tues­day, just a month af­ter be­com­ing a Chi­nese ci­ti­zen. The 30-yearold Elke­son, who has been one of the stars of the Chi­nese Su­per League since 2013, is the first player of non-Chi­nese her­itage to be called up to the na­tional team. Now known as Ai Ke­sen, the striker scored two late goals af­ter the vis­i­tors were al­ready 3-0 up as coach Mar­cello Lippi’s team got off to a win­ning start in Group A.

Neymar rape accuser in the dock

Po­lice in the Brazil­ian state of Sao Paulo said on Tues­day they had in­dicted the woman who ac­cused soc­cer star Neymar of rape, charg­ing her with fraud, ex­tor­tion and slan­der, in what could be a ma­jor relief for the Paris Saint Ger­main striker. The for­mer Brazil cap­tain was ac­cused of rap­ing Na­jila Trindade in a Paris ho­tel room in May, but he alleged the en­counter was con­sen­sual and pros­e­cu­tors said in Au­gust they were drop­ping the case against him due to a lack of evidence.

Va­len­cia sack coach Marcelino

Va­len­cia: Va­len­cia on Wed­nes­day dis­missed their coach Marcelino Garcia Toral. “Va­len­cia CF have in­formed Marcelino Garcia Toral of their de­ci­sion to relieve him of his du­ties as first team coach, ef­fec­tive as of this Wed­nes­day,” the club said in a state­ment. Va­len­cia CF thanked Toral and wished him the best for the fu­ture. “The club wish to thank Marcelino for his hard work and ded­i­ca­tion dur­ing his time as coach, and wish him the best of suc­cess for the fu­ture,” the state­ment said.

Arse­nal hold talks over gang threat

Lon­don: Talks have taken place at Arse­nal about the threat posed by gangs tar­get­ing foot­ballers af­ter Me­sut Ozil and Sead Ko­lasinac had to fight off knifewield­ing men, ac­cord­ing to academy head Per Merte­sacker. In an ap­par­ent at­tempted car­jack­ing caught on cam­era in July, Ko­lasinac jumped out of a ve­hi­cle to con­front masked ag­gres­sors, who had pulled along­side the ve­hi­cle on mopeds. A sep­a­rate in­ci­dent led to two men be­ing charged with a pub­lic or­der of­fense out­side Ozil’s house in north Lon­don.
