72 lakh seized at IGI

was ar­rested at IGI upon his ar­rival from the UAE on Thurs­day for al­legedly smug­gling gold bars. The gold, worth over Rs 31 lakh, was con­cealed in his rec­tum.

Cus­toms of­fi­cials said that Ahmed Washir, who ar­rived at Ter­mi­nal-3 of Indira Gandhi In­ter­na­tional Air­port from Dubai by an Air In­dia flight, was in­ter­cepted after he had crossed the green chan­nel.

On a thor­ough search, seven gold bars weigh­ing about 817 grams were found con­cealed in his rec­tum. Washir was ar­rested un­der the Cus­toms Act.

In a third in­ci­dent, a man was ar­rested upon his ar­rival from the UAE for al­legedly smug­gling gold worth over Rs 29 lakh by con­ceal­ing it in his trouser, a cus­toms of­fi­cial said. The man had ar­rived at Ter­mi­nal-3 on Septem­ber 7 from Dubai by an Air In­dia flight.
