72 lakh seized at IGI
was arrested at IGI upon his arrival from the UAE on Thursday for allegedly smuggling gold bars. The gold, worth over Rs 31 lakh, was concealed in his rectum.
Customs officials said that Ahmed Washir, who arrived at Terminal-3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport from Dubai by an Air India flight, was intercepted after he had crossed the green channel.
On a thorough search, seven gold bars weighing about 817 grams were found concealed in his rectum. Washir was arrested under the Customs Act.
In a third incident, a man was arrested upon his arrival from the UAE for allegedly smuggling gold worth over Rs 29 lakh by concealing it in his trouser, a customs official said. The man had arrived at Terminal-3 on September 7 from Dubai by an Air India flight.
