Fake cops flee with SUV as friends take a break
New Delhi: Men posing as cops from the Crime Branch allegedly fled with a businessman’s Toyota Fortuner SUV near Ramlila Maidan on Wednesday after holding the driver’s friends at gunpoint. The driver and his three friends had stopped near a road where the driver went out to relieve himself. The men then approached them and demanded the car’s keys by pointing a gun at them. Acase has been registered.
The driver, Imran, told cops that he, along with his friends Pankaj, David and Aslam, had taken the car out for a spin after he dropped off his employer. Around 2pm, they had stopped near Ramlila Maidan where he stepped out to relieve himself while David and Pankaj dozed off in the rear seat. Aslam told the cops that he was checking his phone when he saw two men walk past the car and stop ahead of it.
One of them pulled out his phone and pretended to call someone, saying that he seized the SUV. Suddenly, the other man walked up to them and pointed a gun, asking the three men to step out of the car. Aslam woke his friends up and stepped out of the SUV, after which the men boarded the vehicle and drove off.
When Imran returned, they narrated the incident to him, after which they approached the police to register a complaint.
Cops, however, are probing their versions as they found discrepancies in their statements.
