SDMC shuts 2 plastic units
New Delhi: Initiating a crackdown on the illegal use of polythene bags in areas under its jurisdiction, South Delhi Municipal Corporation has challaned 350 individuals and sealed two illegal plastic processing unit in last 10 days. During this period, more than 3,800kg of polybags have been seized from traders, stockists and shopkeepers by the enforcement teams of the four administrative zones of the civic body.
A senior corporation official said that enforcement teams have inspected 590 storage properties during the drive and cumulatively a fine of Rs 8.1 lakh has been imposed. South zone inspected 159 units and sealed shut one of them. “All these sized plastic items will be sent to Okhla waste-to-energy plant,” the official said.
