SDMC shuts 2 plas­tic units

New Delhi: Ini­ti­at­ing a crack­down on the il­le­gal use of polythene bags in ar­eas un­der its ju­ris­dic­tion, South Delhi Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion has challaned 350 in­di­vid­u­als and sealed two il­le­gal plas­tic pro­cess­ing unit in last 10 days. Dur­ing this pe­riod, more than 3,800kg of poly­bags have been seized from traders, stockists and shop­keep­ers by the en­force­ment teams of the four ad­min­is­tra­tive zones of the civic body.

A se­nior cor­po­ra­tion of­fi­cial said that en­force­ment teams have in­spected 590 stor­age prop­er­ties dur­ing the drive and cu­mu­la­tively a fine of Rs 8.1 lakh has been im­posed. South zone in­spected 159 units and sealed shut one of them. “All these sized plas­tic items will be sent to Okhla waste-to-en­ergy plant,” the of­fi­cial said.
