Ekaterinbu­rg (Rus­sia): Asian cham­pion Amit Pang­hal (52kg) be­gan his quest for aWorld Cham­pi­onship medal with a re­sound­ing win over Chinese Taipei’s Tu Po-Wei in his open­ing bout here on Satur­day. The 23-year-old thrashed his ri­val 5-0 to move into the pre-quar­ter­fi­nals of pi­o­nships with­out win­ning a sin­gle round in Nur-Sul­tan, Kaza­khstan. Com­pet­ing in non-Olympic cat­e­gories, Harpeet Singh (82kg), Sa­gar (63kg), and Man­jeet (55kg) could not even score a sin­gle point in their re­spec­tive bouts. Only Yo­gesh (72kg) re­sisted his Amer­i­can ri­val Ray­mond An­thony Bunker III be­fore suf­fer­ing a nar­row 5-6 de­feat.

Ad­vani en­ters fi­nal of World Bil­liards:

In­dia’s top cueist Pankaj Ad­vani de­feated Eng­land’s Mike Rus­sell 5-2 to en­ter the fi­nal of the IBSF World Bil­liards Cham­pi­onship in Man­dalay, Myan­mar on Satur­day. In a clash of the ti­tans, the de­fend­ing cham­pion In­dian pre­vailed over the mul­ti­ple time world cham­pion Bri­ton in the semi­fi­nal match. Ad­vani, who is vy­ing for his 22nd world ti­tle, will face lo­cal player Nay Th­way Oo in the sum­mit clash in a re­peat of last year’s tour­na­ment.
