DCW res­cues teen sold off by mother to traf­ficker for ` 1L

New Delhi: The Delhi Com­mis­sion for Women (DCW) res­cued a 15-year-old girl who was al­legedly sold off by her mother to a traf­ficker for Rs 1 lakh.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred on Septem­ber 8 when Nisha’s (name changed) mother told her that they were go­ing to her sister’s place in Badarpur but in­stead took her to a ho­tel in Niza­mud­din. There, the girl’s mother told her that a man named Shahid would take her home. How­ever, Shahid took her to his house at Ish­war Colony in Bawana Vil­lage. Nisha was told that she was sold off by her mother.

The girl, how­ever, man­aged to es­cape the next day with just Rs 10 in her pocket. “She man­aged to reach her lo­cal­ity in Bawana JJ Colony and asked her neigh­bors for help, who called on the 181 helpline. A DCW team took her to the po­lice sta­tion,” an of­fi­cial said on Sun­day.

The girl told DCW that her mother was con­tacted by a child traf­ficker, Ab­dul, who had of­fered Rs 1 lakh to marry Nisha off to a 62-year-old man in Haryana. She alleged that her mother had also sold off her 1-year-old brother last month.

Po­lice have reg­is­tered an FIR and the girl has been moved to a shel­ter home.
