Nur- (Kaza­khstan): Ravi won In­dia’s first bout at the World Cham­pi­onships be­fore suf­fer­ing a de­feat by fall as the coun­try’s Gre­coRo­man wrestlers’ dis­ap­point­ing show con­tin­ued here on Sun­day. The Olympic qual­i­fi­ca­tion was at stake in three cat­e­gories but all three In­di­ans cut a sorry fig­ure as Man­ish (67kg) , Su­nil Ku­mar (87kg) and Ravi (97kg) ex­ited with­out a fight.

Kavin­der, San­jeet move ahead with tough wins:

Asian sil­ver-medal­list Kavin­der Singh Bisht (57kg) ad­vanced to the pre-quar­ter­fi­nals with a hard-fought win over China’s Chena Zhihao in the World Men’s Box­ing Cham­pi­onships on Sun­day. The fifth seeded In­dian left his ri­val with a blood­ied face be­fore the judges ruled 3-2 in his favour after an ex­haust­ing bout. San­jeet (91kg) also ad­vanced to the pre-quar­ter­fi­nals, de­feat­ing Scot­land’s Scott For­est 4-1.

In­dian spik­ers make fi­nal round of Olympic qual­i­fiers:

The In­dian vol­ley­ball team made it to the fi­nal round of the Asian Olympic qual­i­fi­ca­tion tour­na­ment, which is sched­uled to be held in China in Jan­uary next year. In­dia de­feated Oman 3-1(22-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-19) in their fi­nal group stage match of the Asian men’s cham­pi­onship in Tehran on Sun­day. In­dia, with two wins and one loss in the com­pe­ti­tion, fin­ished sec­ond in Group C be­hind China, who won all their games.
