Greco-Roman wrestlers continue to struggle at Worlds
Nur- (Kazakhstan): Ravi won India’s first bout at the World Championships before suffering a defeat by fall as the country’s GrecoRoman wrestlers’ disappointing show continued here on Sunday. The Olympic qualification was at stake in three categories but all three Indians cut a sorry figure as Manish (67kg) , Sunil Kumar (87kg) and Ravi (97kg) exited without a fight.
Kavinder, Sanjeet move ahead with tough wins:
Asian silver-medallist Kavinder Singh Bisht (57kg) advanced to the pre-quarterfinals with a hard-fought win over China’s Chena Zhihao in the World Men’s Boxing Championships on Sunday. The fifth seeded Indian left his rival with a bloodied face before the judges ruled 3-2 in his favour after an exhausting bout. Sanjeet (91kg) also advanced to the pre-quarterfinals, defeating Scotland’s Scott Forest 4-1.
Indian spikers make final round of Olympic qualifiers:
The Indian volleyball team made it to the final round of the Asian Olympic qualification tournament, which is scheduled to be held in China in January next year. India defeated Oman 3-1(22-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-19) in their final group stage match of the Asian men’s championship in Tehran on Sunday. India, with two wins and one loss in the competition, finished second in Group C behind China, who won all their games.
