Domestic checkers call off stir after corpn assurance
New Delhi: The strike called by 3,500 domestic breeding checkers on Monday, demanding their regularisation, medical and other benefits was called off after the municipal corporations gave assurance to enrol them against the vacant posts of field workers.
The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) passed a resolution in its standing committee meeting in this regard, while the north corporation’s standing committee chairman met them in the evening.
The domestic checkers are contractual employees engaged for checking house-to-house breeding of mosquitoes.
However, when asked that at present there were just130 vacant posts for field workers in SDMC, how will it be possible to adjust 900 people, an official said that arrangement will be made to increase the number of posts. “We will engage them on seniority basis. This will at least start the process,” a north corporation official said.
Devanand Sharma, a member of the Anti-Malaria Ekta Karamchari Union said, “We had a meeting with senior officials in north and south corporations, while got information from east civic body in writing for enrolling domestic checkers against vacant positions of field workers in two months’ time.”
