Do­mes­tic check­ers call off stir af­ter corpn as­sur­ance

New Delhi: The strike called by 3,500 do­mes­tic breed­ing check­ers on Mon­day, de­mand­ing their reg­u­lar­i­sa­tion, med­i­cal and other ben­e­fits was called off af­ter the mu­nic­i­pal cor­po­ra­tions gave as­sur­ance to en­rol them against the va­cant posts of field work­ers.

The South Delhi Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (SDMC) passed a res­o­lu­tion in its stand­ing com­mit­tee meet­ing in this re­gard, while the north cor­po­ra­tion’s stand­ing com­mit­tee chair­man met them in the evening.

The do­mes­tic check­ers are con­trac­tual em­ploy­ees en­gaged for check­ing house-to-house breed­ing of mos­qui­toes.

How­ever, when asked that at present there were just130 va­cant posts for field work­ers in SDMC, how will it be pos­si­ble to ad­just 900 peo­ple, an of­fi­cial said that ar­range­ment will be made to in­crease the num­ber of posts. “We will en­gage them on se­nior­ity ba­sis. This will at least start the process,” a north cor­po­ra­tion of­fi­cial said.

De­vanand Sharma, a mem­ber of the Anti-Malaria Ekta Karam­chari Union said, “We had a meet­ing with senior of­fi­cials in north and south cor­po­ra­tions, while got in­for­ma­tion from east civic body in writ­ing for en­rolling do­mes­tic check­ers against va­cant po­si­tions of field work­ers in two months’ time.”
