Alka Lamba dis­qual­i­fied from House

New Delhi: Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lam­ba­has be­come the fifth AAP leg­is­la­tor to be dis­qual­i­fied from Delhi assem­bly un­der the anti-de­fec­tion law in the past two months.

Ac­cord­ing to an or­der is­sued on Thurs­day, the dis­qual­i­fi­ca­tion takes ef­fect from Septem­ber 6, the day she an­nounced on Twit­ter that she was quit­ting AAP and re­turn­ing to Congress. Speaker Ram Ni­was Goel took the de­ci­sion on a pe­ti­tion by AAP’s Sau­rabh Bharad­waj.

Lamba told TOI, “I was called by the speaker on Wed­nes­day and given time till Thurs­day 4pm to for­mally re­sign to which I said no. I also said I was ready to ac­cept what­ever de­ci­sion he took on the pe­ti­tion.”

Stat­ing that she will take the of­fi­cial mem­ber­ship of Congress soon, Lamba also hinted at the pos­si­bil­ity of con­test­ing from Chandni Chowk in the up­com­ing assem­bly elec­tions. Lamba said she would con­tinue to meet peo­ple of her con­stituency in front of the CM’s res­i­dence daily.
