Delhi Meetings Seen As A ‘Cooling Mission’
New Delhi: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee met home minister Amit Shah on Thursday and told him that many genuine Indians had been excluded from the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam. She had met PM Narendra Modi a day earlier.
“I requested him to see to it that the Indian citizens left out are included in the NRC. The home minister has assured me that he will look into it,” she said.
Mamata’s meetings with Modi and Shah were seen in political light as well given the BJP-Trinamool clashes ahead of and during the Lok Sabha polls. Shah’s rally was denied permission and Banerjee had sought to position herself as the key element of an opposition grouping. On Thursday, Mamata said “meeting the
