Maninder shines in Warriors’ victory
Pune: Bengal Warriors relied on the raiding skills of Punjab policeman Maninder Singh on Thursday to register a facile 4836 victory against formidable rivals Haryana Steelers in a Pro Kabaddi tie.
Singh secured 18 points out of 19 raid attempts in the match played at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex here. Bengal, with this win, are six points away from top-placed Dabang Delhi KC at 69 points.
Haryana remain third with 54 points.
Bengal almost sealed the game in the first half, leading 30-14 with skipper Maninder leading the charge. However in the second half, Haryana bounced back to cut the deficit to seven points. But their desperation in the crucial moments led to multiple errors, allowing Bengal to see the game through.
Haryana lost the grip as early as the fourth minute when their main raider Vikash Khandola was brought down by Bengal’s Jeeva Kumar. Warriors were 6-2 up with Baldev Singh (6 points) and Rinku Narwal (3 points), strengthening the defence.
