4 of family among 5 killed in 2 highway accidents
Gurgaon: Five people have lost their lives in two accidents in Nuh on DelhiAlwar highway since Sunday night.
In the first incident, four of a family, including an infant, were killed by a long platform truck while they were standing on the roadside and talking to each other on Sunday night. In the other case that took place on Monday, a young man was killed by an SUV, while another is battling for life in a hospital.
The incident on Sunday took the lives of a family from Mevli village including Arif (33), his mother Zuben (60), his wife Taranum (29) and a three-year-old child. The whole family had gone to Imam Nagar and on the way back, they were standing on the road and talking to each other when the speeding truck emerged out of nowhere and crashed into them near Mohamad Nagar village. The driver fled the scene and ran. Soon after, Nagina police came to the spot and took custody of the bodies.
While two of them died on the spot, the rest died on their way to the hospital. Nagina Police registered an FIR under sections 279 and 304A of IPC which account for rash driving or riding on a public way and
causing death by negligence. “We have conducted the post mortem and handed over the body to the family for last rites. Meanwhile, we are trying to locate the driver,” said Krishan, SHO, Nagina Police station.
The next morning, another accident claimed yet another life on the same highway — that of two pedestrians identified as Rashid and Aashiq. The two were residents of Akera village in Nuh and were standing near a stream in the village when an SUV hit them, killing Ashiq on the spot. The driver fled the spot and hasn’t been identified yet.
Rashid was taken to a local hospital for treatment. However, given his critical condition, he was referred to Delhi where he is told to be struggling to survive. An FIR has been registered in the case under sections 279 and 304 A of IPC at the Akera police station against an unidentified person.
These are not the first two cases of road accident fatalities on this highway. The stretch of the highway in Nuh, known as ‘killer road’ in the region, is notorious for fatal road accidents. As per the data shared by Mewat police, the number of accidents has seen an increase of 31% between 2015 and 2018.
