Bank strike on Sept 26-27 called off

Ben­galuru: The planned bank strike by em­ploy­ees of pub­lic sec­tor banks on Septem­ber 26-27 has been called off, af­ter the gov­ern­ment ac­ceded to some de­mands of the unions. Rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the four unions — AIBOA, AIBOC, NOBO and INBOC — met with fi­nance sec­re­tary Ra­jeev Ku­mar.

Bank unions were as­sured that a high-power com­mit­tee will be formed to look into is­sues, aris­ing with the 10-bank planned merg­ers.

“Other is­sues dis­cussed in the meet­ing in­cluded wage re­vi­sion, de­mand for a five-day week, re­duc­tion of cash trans­ac­tion hours, is­sues of re­tirees/pen­sion­ers and prob­lems with cross-sell­ing,” said AIBOA chair­man Su­nil Ku­mar. An­other con­cern of PSU em­ploy­ees was ero­sion of the merg­ing banks’ iden­tity.
